Before you tour a house inside, take ten minutes and look at it from the street. It can save you an afternoon.

Look at the roofline from the curb. Missing shingles or sagging spots are worth a note. Look at the ground, too. If it has rained recently, does water pool near the house or run toward it?
Then notice what's around the home, like a busy road, a ditch, or a big empty lot. Not to judge it, just so you know what you'd be living beside.
